Welcome

The following are reviews of some of my favorite children's books. Many of them have won prestigious awards, and all of them ignite the imagination like a good book should. I hope that you can enjoy these books just as much as I have!

Rosa

Giovanni, N. (2005). Rosa. NY: Holt.

Summary:
This book gives a biographical glimpse into the life of the famous Rosa Parks, showing parts of her everyday life that are not well-known like her occupation and her family life. This book follows her through her famous protest on the bus, and shows how the whole community banded together to support her and fight for Civil Rights.

Notes:
The illustrations in this book make it one that can appeal both to younger and older students. This book does a nice job of incorporating the idea that it took a whole group of people, not just one or two famous ones, to make progress during the Civil Rights movement.

Extension:
Writing prompt: Answer the question on the last page of this book.
