Welcome

The following are reviews of some of my favorite children's books. Many of them have won prestigious awards, and all of them ignite the imagination like a good book should. I hope that you can enjoy these books just as much as I have!

Primates

Ottaviani, J. (2013). Primates. NY: FirstSecond.

Summary:

This graphic novel engages readers in the intertwining stories of three famous female scientists: Jane Goodall, Dian Fossey, and Birute Galdikas. Each woman’s biography is shared separately, but their stories intersect with each other as the story unfolds. Though they all researched different primates, they shared a bond from their love of animals and adventurous pursuit of scientific discovery.

Notes:
This graphic novel is a wonderful way to introduce students to the genre of biography. It contains a lot of information without overwhelming amounts of text and can spur interest in further research on the subject.

Extension:
Graphic novels use a combination of words and pictures to tell a story. With a partner, create your own graphic story that is 1 page long. The subject of your story has to be something related to school.
