Welcome

The following are reviews of some of my favorite children's books. Many of them have won prestigious awards, and all of them ignite the imagination like a good book should. I hope that you can enjoy these books just as much as I have!

Me... Jane

McDonnell, P. (2011). Me…Jane. NY: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers.
Summary
This book shows a biographical glimpse of the famous Jane Goodall’s childhood, from her dreams to work with animals to her scientific observation of a chicken laying an egg. With whimsical pictures and a lower-level vocabulary, this book is perfect for students who are just learning about biographies and research.

Notes:
This biography reads more like a story than an informational books. It is a good way to draw in reluctant readers. It is also a good way to incorporate a discussion with students about the fact that famous people weren't always famous, and talk about the ways in which someone with a "normal" childhood can become someone who does great things.

Extension:
Writing prompt: Jane dreamed of what she wanted to be when she got older. Think about some things you would like to do as an adult. Write a page explaining what you would like to do, and the things you think you will need to do in order to make that happen.
