The following are reviews of some of my favorite children's books. Many of them have won prestigious awards, and all of them ignite the imagination like a good book should. I hope that you can enjoy these books just as much as I have!

Awards

Below is information on some of the most popular and prestigious awards and lists related to young adult literature. These lists are useful to librarians for many purposes. Some lists are wonderful starting points for creating a collection rich with diversity and depth. Other lists are great because they encompass some of the best current books pertaining to a certain topic or culture. Lastly, these books can be helpful when students need a reader's advisory.

·      Named after a school librarian, this award is for a book that exemplifies literary excellence in YA literature

·      A compilation of books that offer new ideas and provide and introduction to a variety of subjects within an academic discipline. These books illustrate the diversity of our world and help readers respond to it. Books are categorized into lists based on discipline, including arts & humanities, history & cultures, literature & language arts, science & technology, and social sciences.

Fish memorial, Mark Higgins Clark, Grand Master, Raven Awards, and Ellery Queen Award

·      Nominations are not accepted for this award. It is presented by the NCTE and based on literary merit, poet contributions, evolution of poet’s work, and appeal to children.

·       Recognizes outstanding nonfiction for children
·       Awarded annually. Nomination deadline is November 1.

·      Awarded to the most outstanding children’s books originally published in a language other than English and in a country other than the United States, and subsequently translated into English for publication in the US.
